FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is Emergency Prep Club?
Emergency Prep Club provides short-term emergency food supplies for people with food restrictions. We offer 3-day, 7-day, and 14-day food kits that include an assortment of prepackaged products from people’s favorite brands, including beef jerky, fruit strips, crackers, cheese snacks, nut bars, coffee, lemonade and more. All products are shelf-stable, require no cooking, and are nutritionally balanced to provide energy when a person needs it most. Right now we have a gluten-free line and will soon offer a dairy-free, vegan and nut-free line.
Q: How did you choose the items in the emergency food kits?
A: We carefully designed our mix of food items to be nutritionally balanced as well as tasty and satisfying. If you eat nothing but the food in your kit, you’ll get approximately 85 grams of protein and 2,000 calories a day – plenty to keep you going in an emergency. The kits were intentionally designed to have a high protein-to-calorie ratio compared to an average diet, to support you in a situation where you might be walking a long distance, lifting and carrying heavy objects, or otherwise exerting lots of energy. The kit also includes fruit to give you fiber, phytonutrients, and flavor.
And there’s plenty of variety in the kit to suit different preferences. The food is nutritious and healthy. We include a little refined sugar too, because in a stressful situation something sweet can go a long way in keeping spirits up.
Q: How do I know if items in my kit are allergen-free as promoted?
A: All items in our gluten-free emergency kits are either certified gluten-free, are stated by the manufacturer to not contain wheat or other ingredients with gluten; or are confirmed by a reputable third-party source (such as the Celiac Foundation) to be free of gluten.
Q: Will I need a stove to prepare the food in your kit?
A: No cooking is required. All the food in our kits is shelf stable and ready to eat. Even the instant coffee can be blended into water of any temperature if you don’t have access to hot water.
Q: When does the food in the kit expire?
A: The food in the kit lasts anywhere from 6 months to two years. Some of it is best eaten within about 6 months, so for subscribers, we send a Replacement Kit every 6 months to make sure you are always prepared. You can rotate replenished foods into your pantry and enjoy. No wasted food. No wasted money. Always prepared!
Q: What products are included in your kits?
A: The Emergency Prep Club Gluten-Free Emergency Food Kits come with a wide selection of foods from your favorite brands. Enjoy a mix of protein, fruits and fiber, crackers, sweets, and drinks. All products are confirmed to be free of gluten. Product assortments may change based on product availability, customer feedback, or other factors. You can see a preview of the types of foods included in each kit on our product pages.
Q: Do you have plans to release other kits to accommodate other food sensitivities and restrictions?
A: Yes! Down the line we’ll be introducing dairy-free, vegan and nut-free kits. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know as we roll out additional kit types and to keep up with the latest news from Emergency Prep Club.
Q: Can I customize my Emergency Prep Club food kits?
A: Not at this time. We may introduce customization options in the future.
Q: How are kits packaged and delivered?
A: Each kit comes packaged in a handy grab-and-go canvas bag with sturdy shoulder straps. Items are stored inside the canvas bag in ziplock plastic bags. Subscribers receive a Replacement Kit to refresh items every six months.
Q: Is it safe to eat items that are past their "best-by" dates?A: According to Consumer Reports, the Best If Used By/Before dates “guarantee when a product is of the best quality or flavor. It’s not about safety.” All the food in our kits are shelf stable, so their “best by” dates indicate when each product is at peak taste. We do our best to make sure you only receive products that are dated at least seven to thirteen months after you receive your kit. Our six-month Refresher Kit replaces your items. When you receive the six-month Replacement Kit, the products being replaced should still be good to eat – you can simply rotate them into your pantry. Use your best judgment before consuming products if you are unsure about freshness. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service states that “if the [best-by] date passes during home storage, a product should still be safe and wholesome if handled properly until the time spoilage is evident.”
